SUV shopping can be fun--especially with the confidence of BMW of Bakersfield’s Price Match Guarantee standing behind you.

However, with so many different models and manufacturers to choose from, it’s important to choose the best vehicle to serve your family, both now and in years to come.

BMW and Lexus make high-quality SUVs and in today’s comparison, we take a look at the X7, from BMW, and the RXL, from Lexus. Which one will best meet your needs, though? Let’s take a look at what makes BMW the ultimate driving machine in a side-by-side evaluation.

Seating and Towing Capacity

Both the X7 and the RXL provide seating capacity for up to 7 people. However, the X7 includes more cargo space. The RXL offers 7.5 cubic feet of space behind the third seat. With the seat folded down, that becomes 23 cubic feet, and with the second seat folded, it expands to 58.5 cubic feet. The X7, on the other hand, begins with 12.8 cubic feet of space behind the third seat. That becomes 48.6 feet with the third seat folded, and a full 90.4 cubic feet of space with the second seat folded.

The X7 offers more towing capacity, with a standard towing capacity of 5,950 pounds and a maximum capacity of 7,500 pounds. The RXL’s maximum towing capacity only reaches 3,500 pounds.

Warranty and Reliability

The BMW X7’s design allows it to run reliably for as long as possible, with little maintenance. That’s why the designers placed the battery in the trunk. The RXL’s battery, on the other hand, can be found under the hood, like most vehicles. Having the battery in the trunk keeps it up to 30 degrees cooler during the car’s operation, helping overcome some of the dramatic temperature changes that occur in Bakersfield. Over time, this should allow the X7’s battery to last years longer than the RXL’s.

What about their warranties? Both come with a standard 4 year, 50,000-mile warranty for the full vehicle. However, the BMW X7 also offers a 12-year corrosion warranty for unlimited miles.

The Lexus RXL only comes with a 6-year corrosion warranty. Furthermore, the X7 offers 3 years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance at any BMW dealer--whether you buy from BMW of Bakersfield or not.

The RXL offers maintenance for 1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Safety

When looking at vehicles for your family, you can’t underestimate the importance of safety. Which vehicle will keep you and your loved ones safest in an emergency situation?

The X7 comes with a number of safety features that the RXL lacks. These include pre-crash front seatbelts and post-collision braking. Both work to prevent further damage and injury.

All-wheel-drive, which maximizes traction and improves stability on the road, comes standard on the X7. On the RXL, customers must pay additional fees.

This overview just scratches the surface of how the BMW X7 stacks up to the Lexus RXL.

For those that are inclined to check out the technological advancements, you should know that every 2022 X7 is loaded with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that will take your experience with the Ultimate Driving Machine even further.
