2022 BMW i4 vs. Tesla Model S

BMW of Bakersfield proudly announces one of the first vehicles to our all-electric fleet, the 2022 BMW i4.

When in the consideration process of an electric vehicle (EV) we understand that you have many things to consider. We’d like to streamline the process for you, providing a head-to-head comparison of the 2022 BMW i4 and the Tesla Model S. Let’s take a look and see which one makes the most sense for your lifestyle.

Body

For those looking to turn heads by making a bold stance on all roads ahead, the i4 definitely gets the job done. In a world where looks matter, the i4 remains on top. Bringing all the bells and whistles to the roadway, the i4 comes equipped with a large kidney grille and BMWs latest logo in the center.

The Model S, on the other hand, encompasses a more simplistic design. Its soft features help the elegant sedan blend on the road. The S, with a more poised and less boisterous look, does not have the same panache that someone would want while touring Bakersfield.

Both the vehicles have an all-glass roof, making the space bright and visually appealing for all passengers.

Safety

BMW commits to keeping up with the latest and greatest safety innovations for all vehicles. The i4 lives up to the manufacturer's high safety standards. The vehicle comes equipped with pre-crash front seatbelts, improving protection against significant injury. Currently, the Model S does not come with pre-crash pre-tensioners.

25% of all vehicle crashes involve a side-impact collision. The surround-view feature inside of the BMW i4 helps decrease side-impact accidents by providing a 360-degree view of any obstacles that may surround the vehicle. The Model S only offers rear and front views, causing the driver and passengers to be more vulnerable to side impact.

Both vehicles come equipped with a full line-up of airbags, crash mitigating brakes, driver alert monitors, and more. However, it’s safe to say the BMW i4 goes the extra mile to ensure the safety of all passengers.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates' 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provides the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Tesla vehicles. With 65 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Tesla.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports' January 2021 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Tesla vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 13 places higher in reliability than Tesla.

Cargo

Between sporting events, grocery trips, and traveling, we know your hands are full. In fact, when your hands are quite literally full the i4 comes ready to provide you with a helping hand. With a built-in sensor, the liftgate of the i4 can be lowered or closed by kicking your foot underneath the bumper. Tesla, however, requires hands in the process.

When considering the body, safety, range, and cargo of the BMW i4 and Tesla Model S, the BMW i4 comes out on top.
