Handling and Drivability

With an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the BMW 2 series goes zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. An independent front and rear suspension on the vehicle gives the driver better control over the wheels. This allows them to take control of the vehicle on windy roads and grip the pavement over otherwise difficult terrain, for a smooth and comfortable ride.

The suspension also uses coil springs, which compress more gradually than the traditional leaf springs and limit the bottoming out of the vehicle. Gas-charged shocks in both the front and rear give the driver better control over choppy and uneven roads.

The 2 Series also provides a better overall feel of the road than other cars in its class, with variable-assist power steering. It reacts to your speed and driving conditions in any given situation, helping with parking, sharp corners, long highway drives, and more. The vehicle also comes with rack and pinion steering, as used by Formula race cars, rather than the usual recirculating-ball type steering that’s standard in most vehicles.

Reliability

Fewer moving parts in the BMW 2 Series’ engine improves functionality and minimizes repairs and maintenance. It uses an overhead camshaft design, rather than the typical pushrod design. And instead of a rubber drive belt, a hardened steel chain drives the camshafts. Unlike a rubber drive belt, the chain needs little to no maintenance, thus limiting the likelihood of serious potential damage to the engine.

Nowhere can you see the reliability of the 2 Series more clearly than in its warranty. The full warranty covers the entire car for four years or 50,000 miles, including free roadside assistance for that entire period. A corrosion warranty also covers the car for 12 years, with unlimited miles.

BMW also adds additional perks into the mix; The 2 Series receives free scheduled maintenance from BMW for three years or 36,000 miles. This includes regular oil changes, lubrication, and anything else the Ultimate Driving Machine may need to keep it in tip-top condition.

Safety

The 2 Series’ design makes it one of the safest cars on the road. The seatbelts automatically eliminate slack during a collision, tightening against the wearer to protect them when an accident strikes. In addition to head airbags for all seats, low-mounted drivers and front passenger knee airbags also work to prevent serious injuries.
