"Featuring swan-wing doors, a shark-nose front end, and a supercar stance, the i8 plug-in hybrid is BMW's most revolutionary car in decades."
- Car and Driver
Performance A 110.2-inch wheelbase, dual energy tanks, electric motors, and transmissions, makes i8 feel lighter and more agile than its size suggests. The tail remains low and under-steer kicks in when grip finally runs out. A reinforced carbon-fiber center-body module with aluminum inserts and a substructure at each end support steering, suspension, and propulsion. The electric power steering is responsive to the touch, and weighted to improve cornering. A turbocharged three-cylinder engine/electric motor duo with a combined 357 horsepower delivers M3-like acceleration, a 155-mph top speed, and Prius-like efficiency. | ![]() |
![]() | Exterior Every i8 trip begins with a grand door-opening spectacle. Featuring scissor doors, a pointed front end, and a supercar body. The modern design combines a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a solid stance as it crouches on the street. The front appears extremely low and wide - arranged to optimize aerodynamics. The flat, but prominent grille reveals the BMW genes. From the side, the wedge shape and long drawn-out lines showcase modern dynamics. The BMW i8 lends itself to a sports car figure with electric flare. |
Interior The sporty look of the exterior is continued seamlessly in the interior of the BMW i8. Lightweight construction is also implemented visually with carbon elements in the door sill to reduce body weight. Futuristic, modern, and simple. All Elements of design are reflected in the colors and materials on the inside. The center console is angled towards the driver and all instruments are easy to operate. Passengers have a low seating position, reliable support and outstanding comfort - even when cornering rapidly. | ![]() |
