2022 BMW X3 vs. 2021 Lexus NX

The New 2022 BMW X3 and 2021 Lexus NX rank amongst the top compact luxury vehicles in America. Both offering a luxurious and sleek-looking vehicle, it’s essential to take note of some key differences. Where does the New 2022 BMW X3 lead the Lexus NX? Let’s take a look.

Active Driving Assistant

First, BMW’s Active Driving Assistant technology delivers a sensory system that provides warning signs and avoidance technologies for the safety of the driver and passengers.

BMW prioritized expansion within its Active Driving Assistant (ADA), implementing it for the New 2022 BMW X3. ADA includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, active speed control, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning.  With its fitted automatic speed limit assistant, it detects the route's speed limit and adjusts accordingly.

The Lexus NX’s standard safety feature is known as the Lexus Safety System. Lexus’ Safety System is an advanced system that includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and preset speed maintenance.

Although both vehicles have similar Active Driving Assistant features, the new 2022 BMW X3 leads the 2021 Lexus NX in other key categories.

Performance and Efficiency

The new 2022 BMW X3 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 torque. The engine, connecting to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission, will distribute impressive power to the rear wheels. This Sports Activity Vehicle is notorious for accelerating from zero to 60mph in 6.0 seconds.  The 17.2-gallon fuel tank delivers an EPA-rated fuel economy of 23 mpg within the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

In comparison, the Lexus NX has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 horsepower and the same 258 torque. Its engine connects to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from zero to 60mph in 7.3 seconds, slightly slower than other premium SUVs. Its engine gives an EPA-rated fuel economy of 22 mpg within the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

If speed is your game--And who amongst you in Bakersfield doesn’t appreciate the heritage of how fast things can go?--then the BMW will make more sense for you. Check out Motor Trends’ thoughts on the matter below.

"The crossover's steering is lively and holds the road well, giving it confident handling. Both variants of the [Lexus] NX, however, are a bit heavy, so regardless of the engine choice, neither will be a rocket in a straight line compared to the competition.” – Motor Trend (2018)
